Wine Wednesday: Cline Cellars Mourvedre Rose'

Happy Wine Wednesday! Today I highlight a new wine I've discovered from Cline Cellars. I have been a fan of their Cashmere, so I was excited to try something entirely new in their Mourvèdre Rose'.

Mourvèdre is a rare grape to be grown in California. They produce four distinct bottlings from this grape: two rich, red table wines, a dessert wine and this Rosé.  It has hints of pomegranate, cherry and plum.

Don't you just love the color? Cline Cellars' Mourvèdre Rosé is made in the style of a white wine, meaning the grape skins are removed by pressing before the fermentation begins.  The result is that is the wine picks up just a small amount of color and a little of the tannins.  You can find this wine for about $14 a bottle in retail locations like Total Wine.

Food Pairing: You can drink this wine on its own, but if you want to enjoy it to it's fullest, I recommend pairing it with a slightly spicy food. I actually paired it with Thai takeout, full of fresh jalapenos and sambal chili sauce.  Proof that pairings don't always have to be "fancy," they just need to bring out the best qualities in your wine -- which in the case of this one, is fruitiness and refreshing acidity.

You can "Like" Cline Cellars on Facebook to keep up with up-to-the-minute news and photos from their winery.  I love using the Instagram app and so does Cline Cellars - they always post gorgeous photos from the winery (like these below), making me wish I were there in person!

If you are so lucky as to be planning a trip to Napa in your near future, here is the info on visiting their winery.

Cheers! And Happy #WW!
